OK, so a while ago, I saw something on the interwebs that allowed me to ‘register for the opportunity to buy a 2017 COPO Camaro’. So, I though, WTH, I’ll sign up, I’m sure tons of people will also sign up and I’ll never hear another word - they’re only building 69 of them (so they say). This morning, I got an email saying that I was chosen, and I have 48 hours to confirm whether I want to buy one or not - including an order form, and a request for a $5k deposit. Seems real, but does anyone know anything about these cars/anyone else get the same email? I have the order form, so I have the basics on the car - it’s not clear to me whether they’re street legal or not.

COPOs these days are not street legal. They’re for NHRA competition racing.

from here: https://www.chevrolet.com/performance/copo-camaro.html
It is specifically offered for off-highway, competitive NHRA use only. It cannot be registered, titled, licensed, or driven on public roads or highways.

Was the website you registered through closely tied to GM?, if so, it’s probably legit. But it seems odd that they want so much money with such short notice...

Can you sit on a $100,000 investment? I’d flip that thing for sure.

Yes- pretty sure I was in the Chevy configurator. Email was from an @gm.com address too. It’s real, I’m just trying to figure out how desirable the car is / how “lucky” I am.

I figured. The pictures in the order form all show racing tires.

It’s a little more than that actually. Starts at 110 and you can easily run it to 140+ with options.

I’d contact GM directly and ask. If it’s legit and you can afford it... well...

I’m actually pretty sure it’s real. I’m trying to get a feel for whether it’s really that limited or not.
Hard for me to believe that they’re offering me 1 of 69 cars, when thousands of people signed up.

Looks like it. Same as the # of original COPO’s produced. Whether they’ll change their tack and sell more... dunno.

Thinking I’d still go for it.

It would be cool, but I have no idea how to convince my wife to go for it.

Start finding those auction listings and convince your wife of the return!
